Captain Phillips is a gripping and emotional thrill ride. Captain Phillips is without a doubt one of my favourite films of the year as it was purely an amazing film. The film had me on the edge of my seat for nearly all of it. It was gripping, thrilling, intense and even gets emotional towards the end of the third act of the film. Tom Hanks gives a powerhouse performance and the film was jam packed with tension. There was not a single dull moment in the whole of the film.
Tom Hanks gives an incredible and oscar worthy performance. I swear there are so many performances this year that deserve an oscar and Tom Hanks' performance in Captain Phillips is definitely one of the most memorable. There are plenty of scenes throughout that featured some of his incredible performances, but two or three scenes towards the end just stood out and is an outstanding example of how good Hanks really is.
The tension in this film would be cut with a knife. Captain Phillips, Prisoners and Gravity are three of the most tension filled films this year and three of the greatest films this year. If there was any more tension in this film I would have fallen out of my seat. The pirates made for some intense and gripping scenes that got my heart racing as Phillips was hit into a lifeboat and began to float out into sea. My heart just wouldn't stop pounding against my chest.
Captain Phillips is very emotional at times. The film doesn't really get very emotional until the final 20 minutes of the film, but in these final 20 minutes I was tearing up. This of course wouldn't have been the same if it wasn't for Tom Hanks' performance as I've previously mentioned.
To sum up Captain Phillips is a gripping, emotional and intense thrill ride that had me on the edge of my seat for most of the film. Tom Hanks gives a powerhouse performance as usual and the final act of the film got me tearing up.
